Valentine’s Day is just around the corner: suit and tie for a special evening
Just a few more days and it’s Valentine’s Day. Many couples look forward to the day and plan something special to celebrate their feelings for each other. Many even choose to express their love on this day for the first time. For lovers it is especially popular to go out together for dinner. For this occasion you’ll need the perfect outfit. How about a chic detail in red, for example?
Why do we actually celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 14th February as the day of lovers and why was St. Valentine chosen as the patron saint of all lovers? When it comes to Saint Valentine there are indeed many different stories and potential candidates for the original Valentine, but one is always highlighted: Bishop Valentino of Terni, who at the end of the third century, was martyred.
Many legends describe the bishop as a kind of Cupid , but in reality there is not much known about such activities. However, what we know for sure is that the English poet Geoffrey Chaucer in 1382 finished his poem “Parliament of the birds” which was then presented on the occasion of a Valentine celebration at the court of Richard II. The poem is about birds which gather on this day to find their partner.
Between truth and legend, charm and historical fact, Valentine’s Day is today mainly dominated by the flowers and sweets industry. Everything is of course wrapped and decorated in the colour of love. So, cards, flowers and gifts in red are a real must. Men who are planning to go out with their loved one can also choose a matching accessory in the colour.
With a white shirt and a plain red tie, you are definitely perfectly dressed for the evening. If you wish, you can also add a red handkerchief for the jacket pocket. A great advantage of accessories in red is that they match both dark suits and suits in lighter colours, such as a gray with a black shirt, for example.
If you prefer ties with a pattern, choose a model with red polka dots or a paisley pattern. If you want to wear a striped tie, look for one that has a red tone in it.
And one last tip: If you look for a Valentine’s Day outfit, that is a little more elegant than usually but don’t want to be overdressed, wear a red skinny tie with a jacket, shirt and jeans for a casual and at the same time elegant look!
